Brooklyn Local News: Annabelle: Creation Is a Potent Prequel

This weekend at the movies, weve got an origin story for an evil toy (Annabelle: Creation, starring Anthony LaPaglia and Miranda Otto), an adaptation of an incredible memoir (The Glass Castle, starring Brie Larson and Woody Harrelson), and a squirrel fighting City Hall (The Nut Job 2: Nutty by Nature, featuring the voices of Will Arnett and Katherine Heigl). What are the critics saying? For filmgoers old enough to remember the days of regularly issued Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street sequels, the idea of a horror franchise that retains its spine-tingling effectiveness as it goes along to say nothing of actually improving might sound more than a little absurd. Theres an exception to every rule, however, and the spookily consistent Conjuring series […]

Talk about troubled waters.

CNG

After a brawl that broke out in the street after hundreds of passengers disembarked from one of Sheepshead Bay’s party boats late at night on Aug. 6, Councilman Chaim Deutsch (D–Sheepshead Bay) is drafting legislation to crack down on the notoriously noxious nautical nuisances.

Locals have been complaining for years about the loud noise, excessive traffic, public urination, and piles of trash left behind by passengers on the weekends, but little has been done to address the quality-of-life issues — and now enough is enough, said Deutsch, whose bill would require the so-called booze cruise skippers to provide parking for their passengers. Because parking is so scarce in the area, the effect would be a de facto cap on the number of party boats.

“It would require a sufficient amount of parking, and they would have to come up with that amount of parking for the party boats,” said Deutsch. “In Sheepshead Bay, you’re already strapped with parking, so if someone can come up some parking lot and some place where they could put cars, things could work out.”

Police say they have no report of last Sunday’s 4 am fight, but video and photos show a group of about 10 men breaking into a fight and running down Emmons Avenue, while police cars with flashing lights and officers attempted to stop it.

Several social media users left behind racially-charged comments on the video that was posted to Facebook — which speaks to a larger concern brought up repeatedly before that those fighting against the boats are only doing so because most of the passengers are black. But Deutsch says it has nothing to do with that, it’s simply an issue of keeping everyone safe, including all of the party-boat goers.

“This is not about people coming in, this is strictly about safety issues and quality of life issues,” he said.

Deutsch isn’t the first Sheepshead Bay pol to attempt legal action for a calmer bayside — Assemblyman Steve Cymbrowitz floated legislation in Albany back in June to completely ban the booze cruises from the Parks Department-owned piers, but the bill is dead until the Assembly reconvenes next year.

Deutsch said he supports Cymbrowitz’s bill, but doubts he could propose a similar measure in the city to completely nix the boats. Instead, requiring parking would hopefully reduce the problems plaguing the neighborhood and ensure everyone’s safety, he said.

“I don’t know if I can make a bill to ban them completely. People are entitled to have a good time, but having something in this magnitude is unacceptable,” said Deutsch. “And something this large, I will not tolerate it. I will do everything I can to make sure people are safe and people’s quality of life doesn’t get affected.”

Deutsch also held a meeting with several city agencies on Aug. 8 — including the Parks Department, Fire Department, and Police Department — along with community residents, local business owners, and boat captains to discuss the issue. He suggested that the Parks Department look into the legality of cutting back on the number of permits it gives out, both this season and the next, if people’s safety is at risk — similar to a nuisance abatement, he said.

“Everyone at the meeting agreed that it needs to be reduced. We need to have less people at the bay at the same given time. No one should be at risk,” Deutsch said. “If it’s a safety risk, I asked them to legally look into reducing the amount of permits.”

The Parks Department did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but Deutsch said department officials agreed to look into it.

Brooklyn Daily: Full articles: Putting a price on history: Professor argues protected districts only preserve for the one percent

See this story at BrooklynDaily.com.

By Lauren Gill

Brooklyn Daily

Call it a landmark argument.

Historic districts are thwarting economic diversity in some of Brooklyn’s neighborhoods because their buildings’ real estate value has risen so high that it prices out all but the wealthy, according to a Brooklyn Heights resident and economics professor.

“There’s a cost to landmarking that falls on third parties,” said Sandy Ikeda, who teaches at the State University of New York Purchase. “The mistake people make in preserving historic districts is they forget it imposes a cost, usually on people they don’t see — people who because of higher real estate prices would be unable to live in that neighborhood.”

Ikeda published an article in March on how preserved areas limit new construction in certain neighborhoods, making them off limits to those who can’t afford to live in historic homes — which, unlike most older houses that often sell for lower prices, only increase in value as they age.

He focused on his own nabe of Brooklyn Heights, which is almost entirely a historic district and was the city’s first. The inaugural designation was made in 1965 to protect residences that date to the 1820s from being demolished to pave the way for the Brooklyn–Queens Expressway.

To protect the character of the tony enclave, homeowners must get approval from the Landmarks Preservation Commission to alter the exterior of their houses — a process that includes appearing before the community board and commission, and is required for property owners in any of the city’s historic districts.

And the designation makes it almost impossible to build new high-rises that would increase the city’s housing stock and lower area real estate prices, making the neighborhood only affordable for the wealthy, Ikeda argues.

“Whatever restricts the supply of housing while the demand stays the same tends to raise prices,” he said.

The protected swathes further stifle economic development because many mom-and-pop shops can’t afford to pay their hefty rents, and are replaced with commercial banks, drug stores, or converted luxury apartments, Ikeda said. For instance, the independently owned Brooklyn Heights Cinema closed in 2014 after 44 years on Henry Street and is being converted into condos.

But the professor is not saying that all historic districts should be bulldozed. He praised the landmarking process for preserving storied buildings that might otherwise be knocked down, and noted that several factors limit the city’s stock of affordable housing, including strict zoning regulations that restrict how high developers can build.

He doesn’t think historic districts should stop being named either, but suggested the Landmarks Preservation Commission tighten its standards, approve fewer buildings, and stop greenlighting large portions of nabes for protection.

“We’re seeing more and more of these neighborhoods being converted into landmarks and that’s a serious problem,” Ikeda said.

But the city already has slowed in designating the districts, said one expert.

“There are so many neighborhoods out there at the moment waiting to be landmarked that the LPC hasn’t designated, it’s stunning,” said Simeon Bankoff, the executive director of Historic Districts Council, an advocacy group for the protected areas. “It has slowed down immensely under the DeBlasio administration.”

He agreed that other factors suppress cheap housing, including the city’s zoning regulations and the lack of laws that protect small businesses from being priced out. But blaming historic districts isn’t the answer, he said, as costs of living in the city are spiking whether people reside in them or not.

“Prices have risen in Brooklyn Heights proportionally to all of the other brownstone neighborhoods around there,” he said. “Land costs continually rise, which is the case for almost all of New York City.”

Brooklyn Daily: Full articles: Tale of two stairways

See this story at BrooklynDaily.com.

By Danielle Kogan

Brooklyn Daily

An outdoor staircase in Bay Ridge that gained viral-video fame on social media when last week’s rains turned it into a waterfall is really just the ugly stepsister of a similar staircase a couple of streets over, according to residents.

Beyond the poor drainage, the crumbling staircase abutting a dead end at 76th Street near Colonial Road is covered with rust and graffiti, and overgrown with plants, making an awkward contrast with the well-kempt stairway on 74th Street, both of which are the responsibility of the Department of Transportation.

“The Department of Transportation seems to have no interest in compromising or doing any work on the area. The work they do is shoddy,” said resident Bert Halliday, “and this is an aggressive and callous disregard for the community. It’s offensive.”

Halliday and a group of families dealing with cancer have been doing their best to maintain the stairs on their own, in part as a make-shift memorial for Halliday’s son Ryan — who died of leukemia in 2014 — and other locals lost to cancer.

“Ryan used to talk about how he wanted to buy a house on that block because he loved the view from the stairs. Him and the dog used to take walks down there and watch the sun set. So it became a place we identify with Ryan and wanted to take care of on his behalf,” said Halliday. “But it’s not safe and we just want it to be a priority for the city to fix.”

Halliday said all the city has done is patch a few problem spots — and often carelessly dumping excess cement over the hand rail onto the embankment — and that work is undone every year when the stairs are kept salted all winter.

Even the sewer drain at the foot of the stairway is chronically clogged with trash, so even rains not strong enough to turn it into a waterfall can create a lake at the bottom.

Getting the 76th Street staircase fixed is one of the top-five priorities for Community Board 10, according to district manager Josephine Beckmann, but the city doesn’t feel the same way.

“For the fiscal 2017–2018 year, we submitted a list of 31 capital priorities to be considered for the new budget,” said Beckmann, “this is number five on the list. The DOT responded saying it’s not a capital priority.”

D.H. Cohen

The city put the cost of rebuilding the staircase at $9 million, but Halliday warned that could rise to as much as $20 million if the work is put off for another five years.

Local pols have been working together to mobilize funding for the job.

“Making necessary repairs to this staircase has been an issue that was around even before I took office,” said Assemblymember Pamela Harris (D–Bay Ridge), “and I’ve continued working to ensure the repairs can be made. I was able to secure $500,000 for this project.”

Councilman Vincent Gentile (D–Bay Ridge) has also earmarked funding for repairs, and prodded the city to take action.

“We’ve got a lot of seniors in the district, we want to make sure that they can get around. Basically, it’s a safety issue,” said Gentile’ communications director Matthew Kazlowski.

Beckmann said she has heard complaints of people falling on the staircase, in addition to the steps being practically invisible in the dark. Locals also complain about the overgrown vegetation and never-draining puddles, she said.

CB10 will be making another capital request to better light the staircase and urged the community to continue calling for refurbishment. Until now, the only way residents could register their complaints was by calling 311, but locals recently created an online petition demanding repairs at: https://www.change.org/p/brooklyn-borough-president-eric-adams-the-repair-and-renovation-of-the-76th-street-dead-end-stairs.

The Department of Transportation said that the on 76th Street stairway was extensively repaired in 2014, and further repairs made as recently as March of this year.

Bay Ridge is heading outside!

Get out on Friday night for the summer’s final SummerStroll on Third (Third Avenue between 68th to 80th streets). The thoroughfare will be closed to cars from 6 pm to 10 pm, so you can do some al fresco dining in the street, walk with a beer, and cross the street without looking both ways. Start your night outside the Pour House of Bay Ridge (7901 Third Avenue at 79th Street), where Nordic rockers Lords of the Fjords will be playing.

Once you’ve walked the length of Third Avenue, blast off towards a green space not too far, far away: Owl’s Head Park (enter at Colonial Road and 67th Street), for a screening of “Star Wars: Rogue One” at sundown (around 8 pm).

Pop back to Owl’s Head Park the next day for the Brooklyn Shakespeare Fest, which will present a stripped-down, high-energy version of “Measure for Measure,” with six actors taking on all the parts. The show must go on at noon, 3 pm, and 6 pm on both Saturday and Sunday, rain or shine. Between performances, different musical acts will take to the grassy stage, and the Brooklyn Streetcar Artists Group will show off its work in a pop-up exhibit. You can also make an intermission visit to the Bay Ridge Rocks! Group, which will be painting pebbles with colorful messages and hiding them around the park for people to find.

Six showings of Shakespeare not enough theater for you? You can also catch the young performers of “Into the Woods, Jr.” belting out some Sondheim songs at Bay Ridge Prep (8101 Ridge Blvd. at 81st Street) this weekend, with showings at 7:30 pm on Friday, 2 pm and 7 pm on Saturday, and 3 pm on Sunday. Tickets are $10.

Brooklyn Paper: Full articles: Make it stop: Park-loving tots frightened by noise from ongoing construction at Pier 6

See this story at BrooklynPaper.com.

By Lauren Gill

Brooklyn Paper

Call it a tower tantrum.

Noise from the construction of two towers at Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 6 is scaring youngsters at a popular playground next to the work site, according to several parents.

“My son doesn’t like the noise,” said Bedford-Stuyvesant resident Monica Lubin, whose son was playing in a sandbox near the construction zone. “He was complaining that it’s too loud and he had his hands on his ears. It’s scary.”

Crews started building the high-rises at the foot of Atlantic Avenue on July 19 and are in the 34-day process of hammering more than 400 steel beams into the ground. Each pile is driven into the earth in two 10-minute increments, an activity that exceeds 100 decibels, which is approximately the same noise level as a loud rock concert.

Civic group the Brooklyn Heights Association is currently fighting the development in court, alleging the park is violating the terms of a 2006 agreement that mandates green space honchos only build as much housing as is necessary to fund the meadow’s upkeep.

Last month, lawyers for the association asked the case’s judge to halt construction until the court makes its ruling, arguing the work will disturb park-goers, including borough tykes who hit the playground during the busy summer season to splash around, dig in the sandbox, and ride on the slides.

But the judge denied the request because the work doesn’t violate any laws or the city’s noise code, and construction has proceeded ever since.

The driver pummeling the beam into bedrock produces a sound similar to that of loud hammering, and workers average eight piles per day, according to a park spokesman.

CNG

Parents described children covering their ears to muffle the noise, which they said is an unfortunate side effect of building the towers.

“I think it’s very noisy, it’s very loud,” said Flatbush resident Cindy Velsquez, who was at the park with her 8-month-old daughter. “She got a little scared, but what are you going to do? I guess they have to do it if they’re going to build, but I wish it wasn’t so close to the park.”

Another caretaker said she’s used to the noise as a New Yorker, but the tot she watches is not as familiar with the roaring soundtrack of city life.

“He says, ‘That’s a lot of noise,’ and always asks me ‘What’s that?’ ” said Fritzlaine Jean, who nannies for 22-month-old Rohan. “I’m used to it though because we live in New York.”

A park spokesman said it is following the city’s noise mitigation rules, which include erecting a 10-foot fence around the site, and claimed the construction is not stopping squirts from having a good time.

“We’re pleased to note that we’ve seen no decrease in play area use near the project,” said green space rep James Yolles. “Despite the short-term noise, most users we’ve spoken to about the construction understand how vitally important this project is to ensure long-term upkeep of both those play areas and the entire park.”

And one mom said the ongoing work gives her youngster a chance to get up close and personal with some of his favorite construction equipment.

“It’s loud but we love the machines,” said Morgan Henry.

44 beams have been hammered into the ground so far, and the rest will be in by Sept. 22, according to a park spokesman.

The case over construction of the towers was reassigned last week to a new judge, who will review four-months worth of litigants’ transcripts before deciding if she can make a ruling or needs to hear more arguments.

Brooklyn Paper: Full articles: Check, please: Dizzys Fifth Avenue diner closing in order to fund Ninth Street flagship

See this story at BrooklynPaper.com.

By Colin Mixson

Brooklyn Paper

Talk about trimming the fat.

The owner of popular Slope brunch spot Dizzy’s is shuttering the diner’s Fifth Avenue location so he can pump money into it’s like-named elder sister on Ninth Street.

“Yeah Fifth Avenue is closing, but who cares, because Ninth Street is going to blow you away,” said proprietor Mathe Pisciotta.

The diner on Fifth Avenue between President and Carroll Streets will close Sunday, after just five years in the neighborhood. It quickly became a beloved brunch destination following its 2012 opening, a reputation Pisciotta will honor on its last day in business by treating patrons to bottomless free mimosas and Prosecco in a final grand hurrah.

The restaurateur had high hopes for the location, which he thought would be the first of many offshoots across the borough, but stiff regulations and costly health department inspections limited its profitability, he said.

“I can go on a rant about how difficult it is to run a small business in this town,” Pisciotta said. “The city does not make it easy.”

But the owner also worried that the Fifth Avenue outpost was siphoning business from Dizzy’s Ninth Street flagship, which opened in 1997 between Eighth Avenue and Prospect Park West and benefits from a healthy commuter clientele that uses the nearby Seventh Avenue subway station.

“On Ninth Street, the F train is right at our front door,” he said. “We’ll do 10 times as much business in bagels, coffee, Danish pastries, and egg sandwiches than we do here.”

Pisciotta will take the money he’s saving by closing shop on Fifth Avenue and invest it into the Ninth Street location, refurbishing the restaurant and stocking its pantry with all the freshest holistic, locally sourced ingredients that the nabe’s increasingly bougie patrons demand.

“The quality of products, service, and aesthetics will go up 10 notches,” he said. “People will get farm-raised, grass-fed, antibiotic-free burgers, and chickens from the lady’s back yard down the street.”

See this story at BrooklynPaper.com.

By Julianne Cuba

Brooklyn Paper

A 42-year-old man fatally stabbed a 52-year-old woman inside a Bay Ridge Avenue apartment on Aug. 9, police said.

Emergency responders discovered the woman with stab wounds to her torso inside the apartment between Eighth and Ninth avenues at about 7 am, and pronounced her dead at the scene, according to authorities.

The man, who was taken into police custody but not yet formally charged, lives at the Bay Ridge Avenue apartment with two other family members who were there at the time of the murder — but they were not hurt, said Detective Michael DeBonis.

The victim was believed to have been renting a room in the apartment and living there with the suspect’s family, but it doesn’t appear that she was dating or married to him, said DeBonis.

“Unclear on what their relationship is. They were known to each other. We believe that the victim may have been renting a room from one of the other female occupants, but still unclear at this moment, still getting to the bottom of it,” he said.

“Not believed to be husband and wife.”

Police recovered a knife at the scene and the investigation is ongoing, officials said.

Police did not release the victim’s name as of press time.

A waterfall in Bay Ridge!

Brooklyn Paper

This guy went chasing waterfalls!

cascade of rain water was streaming down a 76th Street staircase in Bay Ridge on Aug. 4, in the middle of an early morning thunder and lightning storm.

A Mill Basinite stopped in his tracks on his way to work at Fort Hamilton when he saw the torrent gushing from the top of the steps near Colonia Avenue at about 9 am it was a waterfall too peaceful to pass up, so he immediately got out his phone and started filming, said Howard Weiss.

I just looked out my rearview mirror and saw the waterfall coming down and I was like, What the hell is that? I need to record this, he said.

The flowing water may have looked tranquil, like one youd see in a tropical rainforest, but Weiss knew better than to go for a dip, he said.

I just wanted to sit there and let it all hit me, but I know its all dirty, said Weiss. I just sat there and recorded a video.

Jury convicts Sheepshead Bays Martin Shkreli

See this story at BrooklynPaper.com.

By Julianne Cuba

Brooklyn Paper

Sheepshead Bays least-favorite son Pharma Bro Martin Shkreli was convicted of fraud on Aug. 4, but the Most Hated Man in America still left the Brooklyn federal courthouse smirking, since the 12-person jury threw out most of the eight charges, including the most damning.

This was a witch hunt of epic proportions, and maybe they found one or two broomsticks, but at the end of the day, weve been acquitted of the most important charges in this case and Im delighted to report that, Shkreli said outside the Cadman Plaza courthouse on Friday afternoon.

The former hedge-fund manager gained infamy, and several of his nicknames, when he jacked up the price of a drug for AIDS patients from $13.50 to $750 per pill overnight in 2015, trolled a journalist and the popular hip-hop group Wu Tang Clan on social media, and made plenty of other crude comments across social media none of which he was on trial for.

Prosecutors charged Shkreli with eight counts of fraud for a Ponzi-like scheme, and the case kicked off at the end of June. The seven-woman and five-man jury began deliberating on July 31, and after asking the judge for just a few clarifications on the law on Aug. 1, they were relatively quiet until reaching the verdict.

The federal jury, kept anonymous, convicted the Sheepshead Bay-born-and-bred 34-year-old on three of the eight fraud counts he was free to walk on $5 million bond, and faces up to 20 years in prison, but no sentencing date has been set yet, and hes suspected to walk away with a much lighter sentence.

Shkreli took to his live YouTube channel just about an hour after leaving court with a cold bottle of IPA in hand talking out his case with viewers. Hes delighted, he told them, but still hopes he doesnt have to spend much time in the slammer.

No jail time would be definitely ideal, said Shkreli, who also said hes still extremely wealthy but doesnt think he wants to manage a hedge fund again.

And Shkreli isnt buying his title as the Most Hated Man in America as he told one of the viewers who asked him if he believed he still fits the name.

I dont think its me, if it was me Id think I have a few black eyes, said Shkreli, who famously auctioned off a chance to punch him in the face to raise money for the family of a recently deceased friend.

The government is still pleased with the jurys verdict.

Justice has been served, said Acting United States Attorney Bridget Rohde.

Theyre awfully sexy: Strippers perform to worlds worst music

See this story at BrooklynDaily.com.

By Bill Roundy

Brooklyn Daily

Its going to be terrible.

At the Maim that Tune burlesque show on Saturday night, strippers will dance to the worst music they can imagine, including commercial jingles, inept ballads, and Toby Keith songs. The nauseating numbers chosen by the nearly-naked performers at the Sideshows by the Seashore theater in Coney Island on Aug. 12, will lead to an evening like no other, said its producer.

People are screaming and saying No! and clutching their heads and thats not the typical reaction to a burlesque show, said host and performer Fancy Feast, who reigned as Miss Coney Island 2016. It subverts the idea of what is a sexy night out.

This is Williamsburg performers third year producing the night of miserable music which sold out both of its previous incarnations. There is something cathartic about expressing your feeling about terrible tunes along with a crowd, said Fancy.

People think theyre alone in their hatred [of certain songs], but here they can get their ya-yas out, she said. It appeals to both sadists and masochists, so its a little something for everyone.

In previous years, dancers have stripped to the Mr. Softee jinglea mash-up of Smashmouths All-Star and John Lennons Imagine, and Garth Brookss Achy-Breaky Heart. But the objective badness of a song is less important to Fancy than the pain that each of the 13 performers go through while practicing their routines to music that they hate. Working through their revulsion can lead to a creative breakthrough, said Fancy.

Im always amazed to see what happens in a performers head when they are stuck with a song that they hate for a long period of time. It creates some pretty twisted striptease, she said. There have been several acts that have come out of this have gone into regular rotation in peoples acts.

Fancy would not reveal any of this years line-up, because the anticipation of waiting for the next song is part of the fun.

People are really waiting for the next track, to see if they really hate it or not, she said. There have been some moments of debate.

But she did reveal that two performers at this years show have chosen the same awful tune which she would normally not allow.

As a producer, on any other night, I would make them get a new selection, said Fancy. But for this show, some things are better heard twice, so people can really meditate on why the songs are so odious.

Trump popular in Brooklyn’s Russian-speaking community – Story

mikenova shared this story .

NEW YORK (FOX 5 NEWS) – Brighton Beach in southern Brooklyn has one of New York’s, and the country’s, highest concentrations of Russian-speaking Americans. With the Russia investigation, Russia sanctions, and Russia news stories coming out all the time, Fox 5 wanted to find out what people think of President Donald Trump and the relationship he recently described as being at an all-time and dangerous low.

“The community voted overwhelmingly for President Trump. Our estimates are 80 percent and higher in some areas,” said Dr. Igor Branovan, a physician in Brighton Beach and the president of the American Forum of Russian Speaking Jewry, a nonprofit that publishes two Russian-language newspapers.

Branovan said that part of the reason Trump attracted so much support in the Russian-speaking community is because the strongman persona he campaigned on is something they can relate to.

“When you see Putin, bare-chested, running after bears,” Branovan said. “So the reason it is shown is because KGB, and he is product of that, knows very well what sells.” [Note: The KGB is now known as the FSB.]

While parts of the community have a negative impression of overall Russian relations, the large majority take a more pragmatic view to the recent tensions between Washington and Moscow.

“The community probably sees that more as the great game that we have in the current times,” Branovan said. “Superpowers and budding superpowers are spying on each other as much as they can.”

And part of that great game is the Russian government interference of the 2016 election. Branovan is convinced the Russians did it.

“Clearly there were games involved,” he said. “Clearly there was interference.”

But not everyone in the community is so sure.

Russians around Brighton Beach and the famous boardwalk told us they like the president and that hacking may or may not be a hoax.

“I don’t think that Russia is interfering,” a resident named Anna said. “My personal opinion it’s a lie.”

Even though relations between the two countries may be at an all-time low, relations between the two peoples aren’t there yet.

“I’ve made jokes at the parties that I’m not here to steal your sensitive data,” Branovan said. “But so far people haven’t done more than laugh.”

A waterfall in Bay Ridge!

Pols celebrate new homes in Coney Island

Brooklyn Daily

Welcome home!

Local pols and community leaders snipped the blue ribbon, opening new below-market-rate housing Coney Island Homes in the eponymous neighborhood on Aug. 4.

The new Canal Avenue digs are part of a $4-million project that brings seven three-family homes to different locations scattered around the borough, to provide affordable homeownership opportunities to low-and-moderate-income families. The project helps a bunch of families stay in the neighborhood theyve grown up in and still love, said Assemblywoman Pam Harris (DConey Island).

All too often, we see families being forced out of their communities because of the increased cost of living, she said. Our community is special because of the people that put down roots here. Because of this great program, families will be able to start a life, raise their children, and build a bright future right here in Coney Island.

The new homes between W. 35th and W. 36th streets developed under the Department of Housing Preservation and Developments new Infill Homeownership Opportunities Program are a win for the community and its residents who will sign up for a new pair of keys, said Councilman Mark Treyger (DConey Island).

I am proud to support programs that create more opportunities for affordable home ownership in our community, especially when they involve turning empty lots into beautiful and resilient residences, he said.

Man fatally stabs woman in Bay Ridge apartment

By Julianne Cuba

Brooklyn Daily

Unwell Donald Trump reduced to posting Twitter about whether hes better than President Obama

Donald Trump doesn’t seem to be having a good week. His showdown with North Korea has made him look ineffective and unstable. His campaign chairman’s house was raided by the FBI. His approval rating is at yet another new all time low. The entire world is making fun of him. It’s becoming more clear by the minute that he’s unraveling as we speak. And this morning he was reduced to posting a Twitter poll about whether he’s better than President Obama.

In what might be the saddest retweet of all time, Donald Trump took an already-completed Twitter poll from Progress Polls titled “Who is a better President of the United States?” and he retweeted it in order to brag about the fact that he had “won” the poll. Of course his “victory” by a 61% to 39% final score is merely a sign of how unscientific and lopsided the poll was, as numerous legitimate approval ratings polls show that Obama is more popular than ever, and that Trump’s support is now in the mid thirties.

Anyone can create a Twitter poll, and the results are going to be based entirely on who happens to see it. But don’t tell that to Donald Trump, who appears to honestly believe that his “victory” in this poll is a sign that Americans like him more than they like Obama. The funny part of course is that the poll included the “#ObamaDay” hashtag which had been originally created last week to celebrate President Obama’s birthday. So in effect, Trump just wished Obama a belated happy birthday without even knowing it.

Meanwhile the Quinnipiac poll has Donald Trump’s approval rating at just 33%, and the latest IBD poll has Trump’s approval rating at just 32%. But in his mind these professionally conducted polls are all “fake” while the random self-service poll he found online is legitimate.

The post Unwell Donald Trump reduced to posting Twitter about whether he’s better than President Obamaappeared first on Palmer Report.
