N.Y. knows how to prevent overdoses but shies away from from doing it

In advance of International Overdose Awareness Day today, Gov. Hochul announced an additional $8 million in funding from the state’s Opioid Settlement Fund — the product of hard-fought wins against the manufacturers and marketers of deadly opioids — for new programs to provide harm reduction services for people currently utilizing drugs, among other things. She also announced an infusion of $28 million to existing state harm reduction and treatment initiatives.
